Why I built melon
Hi, I'm Sam. melon is the app I couldn't find anywhere.

A few years ago a doctor told me I have a condition where the only thing that keeps it from getting worse is strength training. “Now we have to start training,” he said, and sent me to physiotherapy.
Physio felt like being a piece of meat on a factory line: random movements no one explained, and I left every session having learned nothing. So I did what any desperate person does: I googled “science-based gym coach.”
That’s where it gets complicated. Because I also have ADHD, and I didn’t have the words for it yet. A body that had to train, and a brain wired to make consistency almost impossible: one missed day and the whole thing collapsed. Logging a meal felt like a wall I couldn’t start climbing. All-in for three weeks, then gone. If it wasn’t in front of me, it didn’t exist.
One thing finally worked: a coach who could see my data (what I ate, what I trained) and checked in a few times a week. He’d catch me right when the gym was a thought that hadn’t become action yet, and just… push me off the cliff. For two years I trained 2-3x a week no matter what. I put on 2 kg of muscle and went from 30% to 27% body fat, measured on a DEXA scan. People said I was getting big. It felt incredible.
Then the coaching hit $200 a month, I couldn’t justify it, and I fell off. I didn’t decide to quit. I just forgot about my gym goals. Back to juggling five apps to run my own body, each with its own paywall.
So I built melon. You log a meal just by snapping a photo. It does the macro math for you, and keeps food and training in the same place. And the part that actually mattered: a coach who’s actually paying attention, and gives you a push right when you’re about to slip, without the $200 a month.
